Caring Too Much About What Other's Think

This is something that I struggle with.... BIG TIME!

This is also something that my therapist is helping me with. I was doing a lot better with it and thought I had gotten past it until just a few months ago, something happened and I was sent spiraling back down to that deep dark pit. I was devalued and disrespected by someone very close to me, once AGAIN!

I don't feel comfortable sharing exactly who this person was/is or what they did to hurt me. I'll just let you use your imagination. And yes... this is not the first time they have hurt me. BUT... this recent time was worse than any times before. The hurt that I am referring to is emotional, not physical. Although, it HAS affected my overall health.

What this person thinks of me weighs on my mind almost continually! I have had (and still do!) terrible anxiety and stress over it. It's something that I am continually working to improve, on my own and with my therapist's help.

I came across this article titled:

4 ESSENTIAL TOOLS TO STOP CARING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK OF YOU

 by Elle Sommer

The blog is titled LIVE PURPOSEFULLY NOW - (There are MANY more great articles on this blog! I can't wait to dive into some others to learn more!)

The 4 essential tools that she gives us are:

  1. A mental hammer - to hit your need for external validation on the head!
  2. A magnifying glass - to focus your attention on what matters to YOU!
  3. A pocket full of fertilizer - to grow yourself
  4. A spotlight - to shine a light on your passion and enthusiasm
This is a great "tweet" that is posted in the article above...

"Never sacrifice who you are, or who you inspire to be, because someone else has a problem with it."

also...

Thank you, Elle for your encouraging words!

What does "Glow Up" mean and how do I do it?

I had never heard the term... or is it a phrase?... "Glow Up" until I read this article called "50 Ways to Glow Up in 2021 From the Inside", from the wonderful blog that I found, titled.. "A Point of Light". Katrina is an amazing writer! I highly recommend her blog!

Now, back to this term or phrase.. "Glow Up". Here's what I found by going to The Urban Dictionary ...

A Glow Up is a mental, physical, and an emotional transformation for the better. Glow Ups can be both natural or planned. As well as being gradual and permanent, or fast and temporary.

I love that word "TRANSFORMATION". It reminds me of the verse in the Bible...

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. " - Romans 12:2

This is what I "think" I'm trying to do... "renew my mind". By doing this, it will hopefully lead to a renewing of my how I live my life.

Here are some of my favorite parts of Katina's blog post

Go to bed early and wake up early

This is one that I have down solid! I have always been an early bird! I can't say that I've always gone to bed early, but recently... I have been! I love getting up early. This is my quiet time. I use it to journal, write and spend time with God.

Two things that I hope to incorporate into my early morning routine are... meditation and do yoga.

Replace a bad habit with a good habit

Yaaa... I have lots of habits that aren't so good! I like the idea of replacing them with good ones!

For example, I have a bad habit of piling things up on the end of my kitchen counter. A good habit to change to would be to go ahead and put these items where their "homes" are. Right now, on that area of my counter there are the following...

  • a game that I bought for my granddaughter
  • a few paperclips that I took off of a collection of papers
  • the charging cord to my granddaughters iPad "thingy"
  • a book for my other granddaughter
  • a hair clip
  • an extra pair of reading glasses
Clean out your closet twice a year

This is another one that I have always (well.. I try to do!) every year. I like to do it at the beginning of the year and around the beginning of September. I think I chose the September date because it was after my kids went back to school and I had the time again to do it. I seem to have continued that even though they haven't lived here for quite a few years! :)

One of my other "bad habits" is to throw my clothes that I have decided not to wear, on the floor of my closet. If you are like me, deciding what to wear when I go out can be a daunting task. Sometimes, I will change tops at least 3 times before deciding on one. And yes... those that I decide not to wear, usually get dumped on the floor and shoved up under the other hanging clothes!

So.. when I clean out my closet I find myself saying... "Oh, THAT'S where that shirt went to!"

I hope that you will find Katrina's blog post as helpful as I have. All 50 ideas that she lists are all WONDERFUL ways to "GLOW UP" your life in 2021 and beyond!

Welcome!
